Thoughts and a milestone

N. and I began our little adventure on October 17, 2022 in the East Coast, by the Atlantic Ocean.

We had never taken a trip in an RV before; we had considered ourselves solidly in the “No Camping”… camp. So no wonder the most common response to our plans to live in a tiny van while driving around the country was one of skepticism. “Are you sure? That seems like a crazy idea!”

As we approach the six-month mark, we can say that — health scare notwithstanding — we do not regret our decision.

Yes, we have to think about logistics every day (where to park our van for the night; whether we have enough fresh water); Yes, our living quarters are cramped. Yes, I miss my oven and have eaten more canned tuna than I’d care to.

But we have visited absolutely beautiful national parks; we’ve reconnected with old friends; we have learned to truly cherish experiences over material things.

It wasn’t until we had arrived at our campground in Oceano, California, hiked through dunes, and gone down to take a walk on the beach that I realized that we had finally reached the West Coast, dipping our toes in the Pacific Ocean.

Where next?
